Becoming Deaf to Crises

by | Mar 5, 2013 | Articles

There is a recent study that was published describing how nurses are becoming inured to emergency beepers because they are going off way too often.  For the patients, the nurses no longer hearing the noise of the warning signal is quite dangerous.  For the nurse, the stress of having too many warning signals happening too often results in the nurse tuning out the sound.

A recent poll stated that only 21% of Americans are alarmed about the crisis in Washington, commonly referred to Sequester.  The poll went on to state that after so many Washington created crises, there is no longer a feeling of urgency to this latest one and most Americans are simply tuning it out!

So, we have reduced our government to irrelevancy by sounding the beeper too many times.  Will we kill the patient (our economy) like the nurse ignoring the patient’s warning signals?
