Have we entered the “Looking Glass”

by | Feb 26, 2013 | Articles

In Louis Carroll’s “Through the Looking Glass”, the sequel to “Alice in Wonderland,” individuals acted crazy.  The world of Alice seemed to be backwards, the characters were behaving in such a way that they ignored disaster as it swept them up in it!  I never thought our politicians would act in such a manner as to make the characters in that book appear more reasonable and sane than they are, but today that is unfortunately true!

In early January, our elected officials, the President and the leaders of Congress, created a time bomb that was so deadly and pointless that they believed it would force the President and Congress to act rationally.  Today, we are 3 days from watching that bomb go off and the very same elected officials are blaming each other for what they did and no closer to a solution!

And it is not just here in the US.  Yesterday in Italy, the Italians elected to do nothing: neither solve their spending issues, stay or leave the Eurozone nor fix their economy.  Basically, they want all their benefits they are currently receiving, but they do not want to pay for it or work harder to earn it.  They are sending their economy over the fiscal cliff and they voted to have the crisis continue for several months!
